MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK
Designated as a game reserve in 1926, Murchison Falls National Park is the oldest conservation area in Uganda. It is also the largest with 3,840km² of savannah grasslands, woodland, forest and the Victoria Nile. It is home to 76 mammals including elephants, lions, leopards, hippos, giraffes, buffalos, and Nile crocodiles, and 451 bird species.

DAY 1: ARRIVAL INTO UGANDA
Travel 45km (28mi) from Entebbe Airport to Kampala. Check into the hotel for the night. If arrival into Kampala is early enough, option to go into the city for a great meal. Kampala is known for great restaurants.
DAY 2: EXPLORE KAMPALA
When you want to get a better understanding of Uganda, do not bypass Kampala – it all starts here. It would take days to explore Kampala and get full appreciation for its vibrancy, but when you do not have days, a day’s trip is a must.
Like Rome, Kampala was originally built on 7 hills, each with a unique history. Today, the city sprawls over 21 hills. On the trip, you will view historical landmarks, and learn about the intricacies of Uganda’s cultural, colonial, religious and political histories. You will enjoy panoramic views of the city, shop for local souvenirs, art and crafts, and enjoy a great meal.
A day’s trip typically allows for three to four site visits, a meal and some shopping. Some of the landmarks are the Uganda National Mosque on Old Kampala Hill, which is the best spot in town to view the 7 hills; Buganda king’s palace, Twekobe, at Mmengo Hill to learn about the customs and norms of this 800-year-old kingdom, and how it played a central role in the intricacies of Uganda’s formation; Idi Amin and Milton Obote’s torture chambers, Kabaka Anjagala Road (the Royal Mile), the Buganda parliament building, Bulange; St. Paul Cathedral on Namirembe Hill; St. Mary’s Cathedral on Lubaga Hill; the World War I and II Memorial; the oldest market in Kampala, Nakasero Market; Kasubi Tombs, the burial place of the last 4 Buganda kings; the Baha’I Temple, the only onw in Africa, the Hindu and Sikh Temples, the Uganda Martyrs Trail, and so much more. Dinner in Kampala and overnight at the hotel.
DAY 3: KAMPALA – MURCHISON FALLS
Depart Kampala for a 6-hur drive to Murchison Falls National Park in Pakwach. En route to the hotel, you will detour to view the top of the Falls. The park is bisected by the Victoria Nile, which plunges 45m over the Rift Valley wall. Huge volumes of River Nile waters force their way into a gorge less than 10 meters wide. Murchison Falls are said to be the most powerful falls in the world. With a constant roar and splashing, you will be treated to a refreshing mist shower.
After viewing the Falls, you will check into the hotel, relax and then head out for an evening game drive. Game in the park include Lake Chad buffalos, elephants, lions, leopards (the big four), Jackson’s/Lelwel hartebeests, Nubian giraffes, a few species of antelopes, waterbucks, and a variety of bird species. You return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
DAY 4: MURCHISON FALLS GAME DRIVE AND BOAT SAFARI
Embark on an early morning game drive to see the animals as they welcome a new day. Being nature, each game drive offers something different. After the game drive, you will return to your hotel for breakfast and relax. In the afternoon, you will go on a boat ride on the Nile where you will view a variety of birds and animals, including hippos, elephants, buffalos, and Nile crocodiles as they come to drink from the Nile. You will return to the hotel and relax for the evening.
DAY 5: MURCHISON FALLS – KAMPALA
You will have breakfast, check out of the hotel, then head out of the park to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. In the 1970s, as a result of poaching and war, rhinos went extinct in Uganda. Between 2001 and 2006, 6 rhinos were reintroduced to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, and the population is over 30 today. You will track them for between 30 minutes to 2 hours and get to observe them up-close. After the rhino trek, you will travel 3.5hrs back to Kampala. You will then transfer to Entebbe Airport. Ensure departure flight is at 11pm or later. Option to spend the night in Kampala or Entebbe (accommodation not included in price but can be arranged).
